Quartz I
2021(Video Installation, Performance)
Time is a central tool for the erasure of non-Western cultures. It is responsible for the maintenance of privilege, for the regulation of capitalism and economic systems, and for the impossibility of imagining other ways of living. But there are other modes. Crystal bodies carry their own temporalities that are connected to each other and to the world. Past, present, future merge with each other and are brought back into new relations. Quartz is a mineral abundant in Brazilian regions and used by Swiss watchmakers as a technology to mark time. In their collaboration between Brazil and Switzerland, artists João Simões and Ivy Monteiro explore the crystalline body.
Work comissioned by Kaserne Basel and presented in the Culture Scapes Festival 2021
Heart Heart // Lap Dance
2021 (Long Durational Performance)
The Performance was created to question active relations between the artist, the art space and the art consumer when sexuality is in frame. Another aim is also to question if the value of each lap dance can be payed with any other "coin" than the monetary one. The "client" can choose to read a passage of a book for the performer, have some tea and enjoy the rest of the session as a payment for the lap dance. This performance is an utopic studyon how to humanise sex work and their agents.
